Sauter Factory… Summer, 2009
This summer I spent 2 weeks in the famous Sauter factory in Spaichingen, Germany, working and training full time with the expert piano technicians there.
Peter Reinert taught me the finer points of voicing, and all the work that goes into creating a full-toned piano with a dynamic range, from the moment the hammers are installed to the point when the piano is ready to leave the factory.
Franco DaPaola was my intrepid guide into the world of upright regulation, showing me efficient and practical ways to regulate a piano for its best performance.
My heart-felt thanks to these two experts, and also to all the factory technicians, who gave me a real welcome and made me feel at home, even though my German is limited… Vielen Dank!

Wow, Germany!!! Next time you tune my piano, I’ll take a language lesson as well. Love your new site, Sudhira.
